The year is indeed 2020 and the great pandemic is currently going on. I am not sure in the future they will call this a true pandemic or great, but it is happening and I think that everyone should be active and outdoors during this time. Mentally, people are shutting themselves off and overloading with fear from the news and not going outside. The social aspect of this pandemic is killing people and if you have an ostomy and think you definitely shouldn't be outside or active in general I want to disway you. If your healthcare provider says differently, obviously follow their advice, but if you can be outside get out and be free.
The fact that you deal with your ostomy care on a daily basis doesn't mean that you need to stop enjoying life. I think instead you should be outside being active as you can be and staying social. Yes, wear a mask and wash your hands constantly if you must, but don't hide away from the world. That is terrible for your health and even introverts known they need to socialize to feel normal. So some things you can do to stay socially distant and also be outdoors and active are going to the park.
Find a good local park or take a little drive to go to a good one and be free. See nature, take a hike or do some fishing. If you like to jog, get your best ostomy care gear and start jogging. It is really a great way to be outside and mentally let that stress go. Not all of us need to be stuck inside and if you are at a higher risk. Get your mask and be outside alone or at a distant walk from people.
It is worth it to be out and doing something different. If you have been locked in your home for 4 months then you do need mental help. That is worse than prison and even there they don't put people in solitary for that long. Because mentally its a bad thing.
If you are worried about your ostomy and are new to it. Watch some youtube videos to help build confidence on what to do. Then go out and try being active outside. Take lots of extra gear and clothing to make yourself feel more comfortable, but go out and see the world a bit. Be safe and be mentaly sound!
